What should be included in the price?
Your final cost should include much more than the filler. At a properly run clinic, your fee covers:
- A consultation and facial assessment before anything is injected, including a review of your medical history
- The filler itself, a branded, CE-marked hyaluronic acid dermal filler
- The injector's time and expertise, including anatomical knowledge of the facial arteries around the mouth
- Numbing cream and a sterile treatment environment, to keep discomfort to a minimum
- A follow-up or review appointment, usually at two weeks, to check how the filler has settled
- Aftercare support, and a clear route to contact the clinic if something doesn't feel right
If a clinic can't tell you which of these are included before you book, that's useful information in itself.
What affects the cost of lip fillers?
- The amount of product used. Most people start with 1ml. If you're after a very subtle result, 0.5ml may be enough and will cost less. If you're correcting significant volume loss or asymmetry, you may need more than one session.
- What you are actually treating. Adding volume is only one reason people book. Redefining the lip contour, softening fine lip lines, or treating the vertical smoker lines above the mouth are all different jobs, and some need finer technique and less product than a straightforward enhancement. Natural results usually come from doing less rather than more.
- The brand of filler. Premium ranges such as Juvéderm and Restylane cost the clinic more, and that's reflected in the price. They also have far more clinical data behind them.
- Who is injecting you. A prescribing nurse or medical practitioner with years of experience will charge more than a beauty therapist who completed a weekend course. In an unregulated sector, that difference matters enormously.
- Correcting migrated filler, rebalancing asymmetry or working over another practitioner's previous work all take longer and require more skill than a straightforward first-time enhancement.
- Location. Newcastle city centre clinics often carry higher overheads than those slightly further out, and pricing tends to follow.
Why Choosing a Clinic on Price Alone Is a Risk
Lip filler is a medical procedure, not a beauty service. The lips sit close to the labial arteries, and injecting into or compressing a blood vessel can cause a vascular occlusion. It is rare, but it is serious, and it needs to be recognised and treated quickly.
A qualified injector knows how to reduce that risk, how to spot it if it happens, and keeps hyaluronidase on site to reverse the filler in an emergency. A cheap injector working from a rented room may not.
There's also the cost of correction to think about. Dissolving badly placed filler and starting again typically costs £150 to £300 on top of a second treatment. A saving of £100 upfront can easily become a £600 problem.
How long do lip fillers last, and what's the real annual cost?
Hyaluronic acid lip filler usually lasts six to twelve months, depending on your metabolism, the product used and how much was placed. Lips break filler down faster than most other areas of the face because they move constantly.
Downtime is minimal. Most people are back to normal within a day or two, with swelling settling over the first two to three days, so the ongoing cost is usually more of a consideration than the recovery.
