2. Avoid Touching, Rubbing or Massaging the Area
We know—it’s tempting to check how your facial muscles feel or sneak a peek at your results. But touching the injection area can increase your risk of infection, affect the settling process, and even cause muscle weakness in unintended areas. Avoid:
- Facial massages
- Exfoliating or harsh skincare products
- Gua sha tools or facial rollers
- Facial exercises for at least 24–48 hours
Let the Botox injections do their work—hands off for now!
3. No Strenuous Exercise for 24 Hours
Strenuous activities can speed up blood circulation, dispersing the Botox before it fully takes effect. This includes:
- Vigorous exercise
- Heavy lifting
- Hot yoga or spin classes
While gentle movement like walking is fine, hold off on intense workouts to protect your results and reduce minor side effects like bruising or swelling.
4. Avoid Alcohol and Blood-Thinning Medications
Alcohol and blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen or aspirin can increase your risk of bruising post-treatment. We recommend avoiding both for at least 24 hours before and after Botox. Be cautious with:
- Fish oil
- Vitamin E supplements
- Prescription blood-thinning medications
Always mention any medications or medical conditions during your consultation so we can personalise your treatment plan and aftercare instructions accordingly.
5. Skip Saunas, Steam Rooms, and Long Hot Showers
Heat exposure—like that from hot tubs, steam rooms, and long showers—can dilate blood vessels and cause Botox to spread beyond its intended injection sites. This may compromise your results and increase the risk of adverse effects.
Avoid any excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours, including:
- Sunbeds
- Hot baths
- Intense sunlight
Instead, use a mild cleanser and cool water to wash your face, and consider a cold compress if you experience mild swelling.
6. Don’t Schedule Other Facial Treatments Just Yet
While it’s tempting to combine your Botox with microneedling or a chemical peel, it’s best to wait. We recommend allowing at least two weeks before undergoing any other cosmetic treatments to avoid skin irritation and allow full integration of the Botox.
Botox needs time to do its work—don’t rush the process.
7. Don’t Panic If You Don’t See Immediate Results
Botox doesn’t work instantly. While some people notice softening of facial expressions and appearance of wrinkles in 3–5 days, it can take up to 14 days to see the full effect.
This recovery period is completely normal. If you still have concerns after two weeks, we’re more than happy to schedule a follow-up appointment to assess and adjust your results if needed.
The Bottom Line
Botox is one of the most effective ways to smooth lines, relax facial muscles, and promote a smoother appearance—but proper aftercare is key to getting the most out of your investment.
By following these aftercare guidelines, you’ll minimise side effects, avoid complications, and support the best possible outcome from your treatment.
Stay hydrated with plenty of water, skip the intense workouts, and trust your injector’s advice. Your face will thank you.
